Nassau County has some of the oldest continuously lived-in housing stock in the country, and the furniture inside it works harder than most people realize. We steam clean upholstery in all 74 Nassau towns — from a Levittown ranch to a Sands Point waterfront — at the same published prices, with 100% organic solutions that are safe for children and pets.

What Nassau homes do to furniture

Nassau is dense, and that density shows up in the upholstery. Households here tend to live in fewer rooms than the square footage suggests: the den or the family room absorbs most of the daily traffic while a formal living room sits largely unused. The result is furniture that wears at wildly different rates under the same roof. We regularly clean a family-room sectional that has taken a decade of punishment in the same visit as a living-room sofa that has barely been sat on but has gone grey with settled dust.

The county's older homes bring their own issue. A great deal of Nassau housing predates central air, and where window units are still in use, furniture near them collects far more airborne particulate than it would elsewhere. Basement dens — enormously common here — hold humidity, and that humidity is what turns ordinary soil into a persistent musty odor in the cushion foam.

Then there is proximity to water. Homes in Long Beach, Island Park, Oceanside and along the Bay experience salt air year-round. Salt is hygroscopic: it draws moisture out of the air and holds it in the fabric, which keeps upholstery slightly damp, accelerates odor and stiffens natural fibers over time. Furniture in these homes genuinely benefits from more frequent cleaning than the standard advice suggests.

The dining chair situation

Nassau has more formal dining rooms per household than almost anywhere we work, and upholstered dining chairs are the single most neglected furniture in the county. They get used at every holiday, absorb food and drink at close range, and then sit untouched for months. Because they look clean from a standing position, nobody thinks to have them done.

At $20 per chair, a set of eight is $160 — and that is genuinely the best-value work we do. If you're only having one or two chairs cleaned, our $99 minimum applies, which is why it makes sense to have the chairs done alongside a sofa or a set of mattresses. Most of our Nassau customers book the dining set and the family-room sofa together and the whole job lands somewhere around $285 before the online discount.

Mattresses and headboards

Mattress cleaning is the service Nassau homeowners are most surprised by, and the one that changes the most minds. A mattress collects roughly a third of your life's worth of sweat, skin cells and body oil, and it feeds a dust mite population that thrives in exactly the humidity Long Island provides. For anyone in the house with asthma, eczema or seasonal allergies, extracting a mattress properly makes a noticeable difference to how they sleep.

We charge $99 for any mattress — twin, full, queen, king or California king, all the same price, because the work is the same and we're not going to nickel you for having a bigger bed. Upholstered headboards are also $99, and they need it more than people think: they sit directly behind your head every night and collect hair product and body oil in the same way a sofa headrest does. The difference is that a sofa headrest gets noticed when it darkens, and a headboard almost never does.

Why organic matters more on upholstery

Carpet is underfoot. Upholstery is where your skin actually rests — where the baby naps, where the dog sleeps, where you fall asleep watching television. Whatever is left in that fabric is in prolonged contact with people, which is why we won't use the harsh detergents and optical brighteners that are standard in this trade.

Our solutions are plant-derived and non-toxic, and just as importantly they rinse clean. Residue is the hidden problem with cheap upholstery cleaning: detergent left in the fiber stays sticky, attracts soil immediately and leaves the piece dirtier three weeks later than it was before it was cleaned. That's the real reason people say cleaning made their sofa worse. Done properly, with the right chemistry and a thorough rinse, the fabric comes out soft rather than crunchy, with no smell at all.

Questions Long Island homeowners ask

Which Nassau County towns do you cover?

All of them — 74 towns and villages from Elmont and Valley Stream in the west through Levittown and Hicksville in the centre to Oyster Bay, Glen Cove and Bayville on the North Shore, plus the Five Towns and the entire South Shore. Prices are identical everywhere in the county with no travel charge.

Do you charge more for the North Shore or the Five Towns?

No. A three-seat sofa is $125 whether it is in Elmont or in Kings Point. We publish flat prices precisely so nobody has to wonder whether their address is being priced differently.

How quickly can you get to a Nassau address?

Same-day and next-day appointments are usually available across the county. Build your quote online and we will call to confirm an arrival window on the same day you send it.

Can you clean upholstery in a basement den?

Yes, and it is some of the most worthwhile work we do in Nassau. Basement rooms hold humidity, which is what turns ordinary soil into a musty smell in the cushion foam. We use controlled moisture and air movement so the piece dries properly rather than sitting damp.

Do you clean upholstery in apartments and co-ops?

Yes. We work in the room rather than taking furniture out to a truck, and our equipment fits a co-op hallway and elevator. If your building requires a certificate of insurance before contractors can work, tell us when you book and we will send it to your management office ahead of the appointment.

Is salt air really a problem for furniture near the water?

It is. Salt draws moisture from the air and holds it in the fabric, which keeps upholstery slightly damp, speeds up odor development and stiffens natural fibers over time. Homes in Long Beach, Island Park, Oceanside and along the bays generally benefit from cleaning every 9 to 12 months rather than the usual 12 to 18.
