Furniture in Locust Valley and the North Shore
The North Shore is where we see the largest pieces and the most expensive fabric. Four and five-section sectionals, custom upholstery, designer velvet and bouclé, and antique furniture in the older village homes. The stakes on getting the method right are simply higher here — a custom sectional cannot be replaced at a known cost the way a mass-market sofa can.
Fabric identification matters more than anywhere. We see genuine wool bouclé, silk-blend upholstery that should never be wet-cleaned, aniline leather that absorbs everything, and performance velvet that looks identical to cotton velvet and behaves completely differently. Testing before touching is not a formality on this coast.
Older homes bring antique upholstery with natural dyes that bleed, horsehair rather than foam, and frames held with hide glue that reacts badly to moisture. Where a piece is genuinely fragile we will say so and recommend low-moisture treatment, or decline to wet-clean it at all.

The fabric on your sofa decides the method
Before anything touches a piece in Locust Valley we find the manufacturer's tag and read the cleaning code, because that single letter dictates everything. W means water-based cleaning is safe and full hot-water extraction is available. S means solvent only — no water at all, ever — which is why a damp cloth leaves a permanent-looking ring on most microfiber. WS allows either. X means vacuum only, no liquid of any kind.
Getting this wrong is how furniture gets ruined, and it is the most common cause of the water rings and shrinkage people report after a bad clean. If there is no tag — and tags fall off constantly — we test in a hidden area, checking for colour transfer onto a white cloth before anything visible is touched.
Our guide to cleaning codes explains all four and where to find yours. It takes five minutes to check and it is the most useful thing you can know about your own furniture.
Recliners, and the part nobody looks at
Recliners are the most personal furniture in a house — one person's chair, used identically every day for years — and they fail in three specific places.
The headrest goes first, from hair product and scalp oil transferring into the same few inches of fabric nightly. The arms take concentrated hand oil, worse if there's a side lever gripped thousands of times. And the footrest, which is the one people forget: feet go on it, frequently in shoes, and because it folds away out of sight it never gets inspected. Pull one out under a lamp and it's usually the dirtiest part of the chair.
There's also the mechanism — a cavity holding crumbs, coins, remotes and years of dust that's only open while someone's sitting in it. We vacuum it out as part of the $65, and a lot of what people call old chair smell turns out to be exactly that debris.
What we will tell you we cannot fix
Not everything comes out, and in Locust Valley as everywhere we would rather say so before taking payment than after. Dye damage and bleach damage are permanent. Sun fade cannot be reversed. Ink is unpredictable. Sunscreen yellowing that has oxidised over a full winter frequently will not fully recover.
Pet urine that has saturated through cushion foam into the frame or the floor beneath will improve substantially with treatment but may not fully resolve, because part of the source is in material we cannot reach — wood absorbs urine and holds it indefinitely. Bonded leather that has begun to peel cannot be saved by anything.
We assess all of this on arrival and tell you plainly. If we think a result will be partial you will hear it before we start, and you are free to decline with nothing owed.
Outdoor and patio furniture in Locust Valley
Outdoor cushions are the piece most Locust Valley households forget, and they take punishment no indoor sofa ever sees. Sunscreen is the damaging one — it carries oils and titanium dioxide that bond into the fibers, oxidise and yellow. A cushion cleaned at the end of the season recovers; the same cushion left under a cover all winter often does not.
Add salt in the air, spring pollen, tree sap and bird droppings, and outdoor fabric accumulates far more than people expect. Mildew is the end result, and it is worth understanding why: it does not feed on the acrylic fiber itself, it feeds on what is sitting on the fabric. Clean fabric genuinely resists mildew, soiled fabric does not, whatever the manufacturer's tag claims.
We clean patio sectionals, deep-seat sofas, chair pads and poolside furniture in place, with controlled extraction rather than a pressure washer — pressure washing breaks the fiber surface, strips the factory water-repellent finish and drives water deep into the foam. Prices are identical to indoor: an outdoor three-seat sofa is $125 and a four-section outdoor sectional is $220, with back cushions and scatter pillows included. Best booked in September or October, before anything gets covered or stored. More on outdoor furniture cleaning →
How we work, on every piece
Six stages, whether it's a $40 ottoman or a $220 sectional. We find the manufacturer's tag and read the cleaning code — W, S, WS and X each demand a different method, and guessing is how furniture gets ruined. We remove dry soil first with a crevice tool through every seam, because adding moisture to dry grit makes mud.
Then an organic pre-conditioner with real dwell time to emulsify the oily film holding soil in place. Gentle agitation with a soft horsehair brush, worked with the fabric rather than against it. Hot-water extraction using an upholstery hand tool rather than a carpet wand, so the fabric never gets wetter than it can give back. Then grooming, cushions on edge, air moving.
Fabric changes the method but never the price. Velvet, bouclé, microfiber, leather, linen and wool are all priced by the piece, not the material — our fabric guide covers what each one needs.

Questions Long Island homeowners ask
Do you actually come out to Locust Valley?
Yes, regularly. Locust Valley is part of our standard Nassau service area and there is no distance surcharge, minimum distance or postcode pricing. Same-day and next-day appointments are usually available.
How quickly can you get to Locust Valley?
Same-day and next-day appointments are usually available. Build a quote on this page with your address in the form and we will call the same day to confirm the earliest arrival window we have.
Are your products safe for children and pets?
Yes. Everything we use is plant-derived and non-toxic, with no harsh detergents or optical brighteners. There is no chemical smell and nothing needs to air out before the room is usable — which matters more on upholstery than anywhere, because it is the surface people actually rest on.
How long will my furniture take to dry?
Most pieces are dry to the touch in two to four hours and fully cured in about six. Dining chairs take one to two hours, sectionals three to five, and mattresses four to six. We stand cushions on edge and keep air moving to speed it up.
Can the price change once you arrive?
Only if a piece turns out to be dramatically more soiled than described — years of untreated pet accidents, smoke or mould damage. We tell you before starting and you can decline at no charge. We never renegotiate part-way through a job.
Do you clean carpets and rugs in Locust Valley too?
Yes. Upholstery is our specialty, but we clean carpet and area rugs across Nassau as well, and combining them in one visit costs less than booking two — the travel is already covered.
