Furniture in Old Westbury works harder than most people realise, and almost none of it has ever been properly cleaned. We are upholstery specialists covering all of Nassau County — $125 for a three-seat sofa, published, with no bait pricing and no upsell when we arrive.
Furniture in Old Westbury and the North Shore
The North Shore is where we see the largest pieces and the most expensive fabric. Four and five-section sectionals, custom upholstery, designer velvet and bouclé, and antique furniture in the older village homes. The stakes on getting the method right are simply higher here — a custom sectional cannot be replaced at a known cost the way a mass-market sofa can.
Fabric identification matters more than anywhere. We see genuine wool bouclé, silk-blend upholstery that should never be wet-cleaned, aniline leather that absorbs everything, and performance velvet that looks identical to cotton velvet and behaves completely differently. Testing before touching is not a formality on this coast.
Older homes bring antique upholstery with natural dyes that bleed, horsehair rather than foam, and frames held with hide glue that reacts badly to moisture. Where a piece is genuinely fragile we will say so and recommend low-moisture treatment, or decline to wet-clean it at all.

What we will tell you we cannot fix
Not everything comes out, and in Old Westbury as everywhere we would rather say so before taking payment than after. Dye damage and bleach damage are permanent. Sun fade cannot be reversed. Ink is unpredictable. Sunscreen yellowing that has oxidised over a full winter frequently will not fully recover.
Pet urine that has saturated through cushion foam into the frame or the floor beneath will improve substantially with treatment but may not fully resolve, because part of the source is in material we cannot reach — wood absorbs urine and holds it indefinitely. Bonded leather that has begun to peel cannot be saved by anything.
We assess all of this on arrival and tell you plainly. If we think a result will be partial you will hear it before we start, and you are free to decline with nothing owed.
Ottomans, and the shoe problem
The ottoman is the only piece of furniture people routinely put their shoes on, and in Old Westbury that means driveway grit, lawn treatment, sand and winter road salt going straight into the fabric under the weight of two feet.
That soil is abrasive as well as dirty. Grit ground into upholstery cuts the fibers, which is why ottoman fabric goes fuzzy and thin at the centre long before the sides show any wear at all. Cleaning removes it before it does more damage.
Most ottomans double as coffee tables too, so condensation rings and sticky patches where a spill was wiped rather than blotted are extremely common. At $40 added to any job it is the best-value item on our list — and if the top lifts, we clean the storage lining inside at no extra charge.
What our organic policy actually means
Every solution we bring into a Old Westbury home is plant-derived and non-toxic. That isn't marketing language for us, it's a practical decision about where upholstery sits in a house.
Carpet is underfoot. Upholstery is where skin actually rests — where a baby naps, where the dog sleeps, where you fall asleep in front of the television. Whatever remains in that fabric stays in prolonged contact with people, which is why we won't use the harsh detergents and optical brighteners that are standard in this trade.
It also solves the residue problem. Detergent left in fabric stays sticky and attracts soil immediately, which is why some sofas look worse a month after cleaning than before — the origin of the myth that cleaning makes furniture soil faster. It wasn't the cleaning; it was the rinse that never happened. Our solutions rinse clean, so fabric comes out soft rather than crunchy, with no smell and nothing left to attract dirt.
Outdoor and patio furniture in Old Westbury
Outdoor cushions are the piece most Old Westbury households forget, and they take punishment no indoor sofa ever sees. Sunscreen is the damaging one — it carries oils and titanium dioxide that bond into the fibers, oxidise and yellow. A cushion cleaned at the end of the season recovers; the same cushion left under a cover all winter often does not.
Add salt in the air, spring pollen, tree sap and bird droppings, and outdoor fabric accumulates far more than people expect. Mildew is the end result, and it is worth understanding why: it does not feed on the acrylic fiber itself, it feeds on what is sitting on the fabric. Clean fabric genuinely resists mildew, soiled fabric does not, whatever the manufacturer's tag claims.
We clean patio sectionals, deep-seat sofas, chair pads and poolside furniture in place, with controlled extraction rather than a pressure washer — pressure washing breaks the fiber surface, strips the factory water-repellent finish and drives water deep into the foam. Prices are identical to indoor: an outdoor three-seat sofa is $125 and a four-section outdoor sectional is $220, with back cushions and scatter pillows included. Best booked in September or October, before anything gets covered or stored. More on outdoor furniture cleaning →
How we work, on every piece
Six stages, whether it's a $40 ottoman or a $220 sectional. We find the manufacturer's tag and read the cleaning code — W, S, WS and X each demand a different method, and guessing is how furniture gets ruined. We remove dry soil first with a crevice tool through every seam, because adding moisture to dry grit makes mud.
Then an organic pre-conditioner with real dwell time to emulsify the oily film holding soil in place. Gentle agitation with a soft horsehair brush, worked with the fabric rather than against it. Hot-water extraction using an upholstery hand tool rather than a carpet wand, so the fabric never gets wetter than it can give back. Then grooming, cushions on edge, air moving.
Fabric changes the method but never the price. Velvet, bouclé, microfiber, leather, linen and wool are all priced by the piece, not the material — our fabric guide covers what each one needs.

Questions Long Island homeowners ask
Can the price change once you arrive?
Only if a piece turns out to be dramatically more soiled than described — years of untreated pet accidents, smoke or mould damage. We tell you before starting and you can decline at no charge. We never renegotiate part-way through a job.
Do you clean carpets and rugs in Old Westbury too?
Yes. Upholstery is our specialty, but we clean carpet and area rugs across Nassau as well, and combining them in one visit costs less than booking two — the travel is already covered.
What if my sofa has no cleaning tag?
We test. In a hidden area we apply a small amount of moisture and check for colour transfer onto a white cloth, then watch how the fabric responds as it dries. Any dye release or watermarking and we treat the piece as solvent-only. It takes five minutes and it prevents expensive damage.
How much does upholstery cleaning cost in Old Westbury?
A three-seat sofa is $125, a loveseat $99, a sectional $150 or $220 depending on size, dining chairs $20 each, recliners $65, ottomans $40, and mattresses and headboards $99 each.
